For a vegetarian like you, that may sound easy, but it is an exercise & effort at self-restraint for me.

I also agree with your comments about personal self-restraint being a virtue.

Self-restraint--it's always been hard for me. I remember in first grade, the one and only black mark on my all-A's report card was a check (indicating needs improvement) in the box "exercises self-restraint." (And now nearly 50 years later, I still remember the sting of that criticism!)

I think this virtue seems, sadly, to be diminishing--globally and personally. Our appetites are whetted with consumer ads that put luxory within our reach. Even the rapidity of modern technology contributes, I think. Now, waiting for anything seems more difficult!

Deep breath.

So I appreciate Lent, as you appreciate your period of fasting. Good luck.Saipan Writerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10030098267460841286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6623415689314087026.post-48494920681935522142008-02-23T10:21:00.000+10:002008-02-23T10:21:00.000+10:00No water and soccer are definitely not a good mix....No water and soccer are definitely not a good mix. Pick a non-soccer day. If you're unlucky enough to live on the south island of New Zealand, you're fasting for 16 hours. But, if you live in the extreme north or south, you fast by the clock clock.Marianas Eyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00754236373708613994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6623415689314087026.post-20697777715075742852008-02-21T08:12:00.000+10:002008-02-21T08:12:00.000+10:00Is it always this time of year?
